November 5 -We were visited by the St. Augustine Kateri Warrior Dancers as well as an old friend, Fr. David Korth. They put on a wonderful show sponsored by the Durham Museum.
Sixth Grade Social Studies:
In early September we will be studying geography and culture. In 2014-2015 we will be studying World History. We will be involved in a large research project in late winter explained in the "Research Report" section of this web site.Grades are now available on-line and I update my grades at least once a week. Check with the office for passwords, etc. Pictures have been uploaded from the Science-Social Studies Fair on the "Research Report" Section. We will be doing a slimmed down version of the country report in late April and also a Holocaust mini-unit.

Sixth grade religion class is a survey of both the Old and New Testaments. We will be using the Catholic voice newspaper in class thanks to several organizations including the Knights of Columbus. Grades are now available on-line and I update my grades at least once a week. Check with the office for passwords, etc.
The weeks of December we will cover Hannukah, Advent, Christmas and Kwanzaa. In April we will study Lent and Holy Week as well as Easter.

WRITING ASSESSMENT
In late September, the students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will be practicing writing skills by writing a medium length essay as a rough draft on Monday and a final draft on Tuesday. There will be a small group of teachers who will proofread each essay. Reading , writing and mathematics are essential for the success of each and every student at Holy Name.
October 18, 2013-6th grade Archdiocesan Vocations Fair at Skutt Catholic High School with music by the Fisheaters (Fr. Damien Cook and others) and remarks by Fr. Michael Voithofer. It was definitely high energy Christian rock-n-roll! The students had a great time and left with lots of memories. Mass was celebrated by Archbishop George Lucas. We had an enjoyable bus ride with students from St. Philip Neri and St. Bernards. The sixth graders met many sisters, priests, brothers, and high school students from Skutt, Mt. Michael, Mercy, Roncalli, Duchesne, and Prep.
