It's a good thing to keep a good sense of humor as well as look at things from someone else's perspective.
Junior High Service Opportunities
The 7th and 8 th graders have been participating in service projects such as working the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society TNT water stops at the Omaha Corporate Cup & Omaha Marathon. We will be helping Sunday September 16 for the Corporate Cup and on Sunday the 23rd for the Omaha Marathon. The 7th and 8th graders need to do 9 service hours per semester. Most of the high schools, both Catholic and public require more than double that each year. Our goal is not just to get the students not just to perform service in high school but also to be involved in service for the rest of their lives. In the second semester we will have multiple Holy Name fish fries, helping out at the Salvation Army, and the Open Door Mission. More information is available on the service hour page. |
VolunteeringHere are a series of really good set of articles on volunteering and service hours:http://cathstan.org/ftp/volunteer.pdf
There are a multiplicity of service hour opportunities including the famous fish fries of Lent, the Booth Durham Game Day at the Salvation Army, the Open Door Mission, and others. Please check with your 7th or 8th grader and Mr. McCarville. Colleen Peterson, Development Director, is asking for volunteers to help with the raffles at the Fish Fry. Contact her at 402-677-3826. You must sign up ahead of time. No drop in workers are allowed. The HN Fish Fries begin Friday Feb. 8. We have also started to help the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at 21st and Leavenworth. |
Field Trips
The seventh and eighth graders visited Fontenelle Forest on March 19. They got to take a walk in the woods and learn about owls, banding birds and migration. Even found a snake!
We viewed the military veterans display at the Durham in the fall.
The seventh and eighth grades returned to Fontenelle Forest on March 18, 2013.
On April 8, the seventh and eighth graders visited the Durham exhibit on the right to vote and the women of rock and roll!
More information is on the field trip page.
